All the Praise

Sunday, May 13

"Oh Our Lord" by All Sons and Daughters is nothing short of an anthem declaring the praise of God. It begins with the chorus shouting "Oh, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth." from Psalm 8:9. There is something special when a song starts out from nothing into a chorus of direct praise to God. It sets our hearts directionally toward our Father in praise. It is a refreshing reminder that the earth is filled with God's creation, all giving him praise in a myriad of different ways.
Continuing its theme of direct praise, the verses proclaim, "We behold the rising sun", "We behold the breaking dawn", and "We behold the falling rain". These are practical ways of observing the tangible things God has made and recognizing His greatness in creation. Most importantly though, it rings out a prayerful "We look to you, we long for You, oh Lord." variation to close each verse. I love when songs use the pronoun "We" instead of "I". It reminds us that we are all together on Sunday as we sing. We might have arrived alone, but when we sing, we sing as one to our Lord. What an invaluable gift that we have as the body of Christ!

We sing a lot of different songs in a lot of different ways. Ultimately these songs are all meant to glorify the name of our Savior, but these songs are also SO VALUABLE in uniting the body of Christ! We are so forgetful of the goodness of God and the promises He has given, so when we sing songs like this together it fills my heart. If you are reading this now or far into the future, I challenge you to sing these kinds of songs as a prayer to our Father, but also as a reminder to your heart, and the hearts of those around you.

"Only One…".  This is the anthem of our choir feature this Sunday. There is much in this world that vies for our attention.  Much that yearns for our affections.  The pull from worldly pleasures assaults our senses in constant battle for the throne of our hearts.  But there is only One…only One that rightfully deserves the place of preeminence.  There is only One that demands and commands rightful ownership of the place of worship.  His name is Jesus.

"All the praise goes to Jesus.  All the praise, to Him alone. All the glory, and honor, forevermore, all the praise to Him alone."

There is only One that absorbed the curse of sin.  Only One that has raised new life again.  Only One that is King of every king.  Only One has the power to redeem.  I can't save you.  Neither can your spouse, or your job.  Not even the church.  Nope.  Only One.  His name is Jesus.  He is the only one worthy of worship.  Listen this Sunday morning to the anthem of praise, and give the One…King Jesus…your worship today.
