At the cross

How are we today my song talks buddies!? This weather is amazing, hope you are soaking it in. Well, I am sick. I have a splitting headache and the beginnings of a massive cold. I am currently on ColdCalm and a generic version of Mucinex…blah. Sicknesses are the worst. Especially this time of year, with stomach viruses and the respiratory flu going around. It never fails that I forget to say to myself "I feel great!" when I actually do feel good, but needlessly lament and complain the moment my nose starts running! Sickness and disease always remind me that this isn't the way it's supposed to be. Joe White is gonna be here this weekend.  Joe White is the president of Kanakuk Kamps based right here in the good ole Ozarks of southwest Missouri.  He does this presentation that has made him famous worldwide in which he builds a cross on the stage while telling the story of Jesus and His crucifixion. As a side note, if there were ever a time to invite a lost frien...

Gospel

I'm reading a book right now with my staff called "The Imperfect Disciple" by Jared Wilson.  Highly recommend it. It is a wonderful exposition on the failures of our "trying" to be disciples of Christ by beholding and reminding ourselves of the true gospel. It's difficult to really explain the tension between our "trying" to be disciples of Christ and actually being a disciple. Okay, so that sentence is weird.  Let me see if I can explain it better. Every day I get a notice on my phone reminding me to read today's excerpt from the Scriptures or I'm doomed to continued failure and will burn eternally in hell.  Alright, it doesn't actually say that, but that's sometimes what it feels like. We roll around in that t...

Tremble

Good afternoon song talkers!  Today we are gonna rap about a song that seems to be born out of Mark 4 and 5. The writers of "Tremble", the focus of today's blog, are worship leaders and pastors from Mosaic church in Los Angeles, CA. The immense darkness that envelops a city like that cannot be overstated. But as the authors say, "it can be overcome".  Just a general google search of crime in LA will give you the idea of the amount of hopelessness and lostness in southern California.  However, the same can be stated of our world in general. Lostness is everywhere we look.  Typically even in little Springfield, MO the first two or three news stories on the evening news will be related to crime is some form.  Families are broken, sin is rampant and almost celebrated throughout our political systems and sexualized culture.  The brokenness is not simply relegated to humanity.  Creation itself seems to be groaning.  Hurricanes, earthquakes, and ...
