Goodness of God

Hello!   I hope you all have had a great week up to this point!   Mark has been on vacation in Texas and then on to Colorado, so I know he is having a great week with family.   Today I was thinking about the song Goodness of God and the timely impact it has had on our church body.   I love the song and appreciate the chorus that proclaims, "All my life You have been faithful, All my life You have been so, so good, With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God."   This song declares the goodness of our God in every season of our life - no matter what circumstances we are walking through in the moment.   The bridge goes on to declare, "Your goodness is running after, it's running after me, with my life laid down I surrender now, I give You everything, Your goodness is running after me".   This bridge is taken from Psalm 23:6 that says, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…".   ...

Worship Changes Everything

Sunday, July 28   Hello Song Talkers, my name is Ryan Ward! I am the Contemporary Worship Minister here at Second – which means I lead the 11AM service.     I love to worship God, I love worship music, and I absolutely love to worship corporately as a church body!  There is something about a group of people lifting up praise to a Holy God that will always be special to me.     From a young age I have loved music, I think I received that trait from my father who always had music playing in the house or on car drives.  I started playing instruments and singing as a teenager. I fell in love with corporate worship on a mission trip to Gatlinburg, TN when I was 17 years old.  A couple years later I felt called to worship ministry and began leading worship at a local church. It was there that I realized I not only loved to lead worship, but I also love to lead worship teams.  This was the beginning of a pat...

Time off!

What's up Song Talkers!  What a service we had on Sunday! It was a blessed time to see Jesus worshipped, a new pastor installed, people getting saved and joining in our fellowship at SBC! It was a glorious morning! Well, it's summertime. And our practice for the last few years has been to give the choir and orchestra a few weeks off in the summer to just relax, rejuvenate, and recruit! For those of you in the 11:00 service nothing changes, but for the 9:30 people, this simply means we will be led a little differently than usual for a bit.  Fresh change of pace. This begins this week and will last through the first Sunday in August. Ryan and I are excited to be leading together in both services and can't wait to worship with you all this Sunday. So come ready to engage the Lord like you do every week and experience the wonder of our God! This gives me the chance to introduce our 9:30 crowd to Ryan Ward, our contemporary worship leader. Ryan has been involved at ...

Covenant Together

What's the 411 Song Talkers!?  Can we just commiserate for a second on this crazy heat!  Man it's nuts out there! I had the blessing of serving our students at Second Students Camp in Cave Springs OK this weekend.  On Friday, I was serving up some sweet fun and sweating profusely on the slip n' slide kickball course when over my shoulder I noticed a MASSIVE storm coming our way.  In less than 5 minutes the heavens opened and the temp dropped about 20 degrees.  We all went from sweating like crazy to goose bumps on our sun burnt arms!  Praise the Lord!  His power and goodness on display! On the way home on Saturday (I had to lead worship Sunday morning) there was a firework display directly in front of me.  Man's display of power in the heavens. Huge fireworks!  A myriad of colors and shapes and incredible booms going off right in front of me.  It was awesome…until God demonstrated His very own display of color, light and power....
