Noel

NOEL - Christmas, from French  Noël  ("Christmas season"), may come from the Old French nael, may be derived in turn from Latin natalis,  meaning  "birth" What a great word. Noel. This might be my favorite word of the season. What it describes in terms of Judeo Christianity cannot be mistaken…the birth of Christ. The birth of Christmas. This word takes on one of the foundational beliefs of our faith, the Incarnation. Yep, that's a fifty cent word. Here's the fifty cent definition from R. L. Reymond, the Incarnation is, "In the context of Christian Theology, the act whereby the eternal Son of God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, without ceasing to be what He is, God the Son, took into union with Himself what He before that act did not possess, a human nature".  Yeah, say that five times fast. I don't know if you have kids or not, but I'm telling you, for me the birth of my children is the single most amazing things t...

Give Thanks

Well, the season is among us. Leaves are falling, we've had our first snow, and the stores are screaming Christmas!  People, I've been listening to Christmas music since May! Albeit just to get ready for our Christmas Night of Worship in a few weeks, but Christmas none the less. My kids are already making their lists and we are making plans with family. I mean…I am, but why? Why do we miss out on this simple yet profound response to the goodness and faithfulness of God? Many of us will sit around superbly decorated tables adorned with all the traditional Thanksgiving fare of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and a host of oth...

The Getty's

As you may have noticed this past Sunday, we have torn down the stage to prepare for Fresh Grounded Faith this coming weekend. We are getting ready for a LOT of women to be in the building! Then to welcome the Getty's (who are leading worship for FGF) to the stage on Saturday night for a refreshing night of the gospel being sung with modern hymns and upbeat bluegrass music with an Irish flare. It's going to be a great weekend! So for this week's song talks I just want to point you to some of the music that you will hear this weekend. I don't know how to explain it accept to say that if your soul needs a lift, if your heart could long for something true, this is the place to be on Saturday night. The Getty's, along with men like Stuart Townend, Bob Kauflin, and a few others are on the forefront of the modern hymn movement. They have written songs birthed out of a deep love for the Word of God and the Savior that it describes. The story of redemption woven t...
